Lessons Learned

  • The incidence of maltreatment, including neglect and physical and sexual abuse is more than 25 percent higher among deaf and hard-of-hearing children than among hearing youths.
  • Given tools and strategies Parents and Caregivers can help keep their child safe by increasing their use of language, to express their feelings/emotions, and name body parts, that are safe and unsafe to touch.
  • Giving our kids permission to say. No.” “We don’t keep secrets, though we can keep surprises.”
