Friend of CEC Spotlight: Kimberly Moffett
The Friends of CEC are a community of monthly donors who sustain CEC’s work year.
1. What is your connection to the field of special education and the Council for Exceptional Children?
I taught in the field of special education in classroom and home-based settings for over 10 years before working in higher education special education teacher preparation. I became a CEC member when completing my undergraduate degree and renewed my membership when beginning a student chapter. In 2010, I served as the Local Arrangements Committee Chair for the Nashville Convention, and I am currently involved with advocacy as a Children and Youth Action Network (CAN) Coordinator and the Division of Leaders and Legacy.
2. Can you share a moment or experience that shaped your commitment to this work?
Throughout my 20+ years as a member, several moments and experiences have shaped my commitment to CEC. My past tenure on the CEC Board of Directors rekindled my desire to make a difference and maintain momentum for advocacy, ensuring positive change and growth for our profession and for those with disabilities.
3. What motivated you to become a Friend of CEC?
Becoming a Friend of CEC just seemed like the right thing to do at the right time. This is a way to help ensure that CEC remains intact long after I can no longer continue my volunteer work.
4. What would you say to someone considering joining the Friends of CEC community?
We tend to invest in what we believe in for varying reasons. CEC can do a lot even if we can only give a little. These gifts can help move CEC forward together to advance our organization.
